To those 'christians' who are slamming the 'Catholics':

Thank you for demonstrating how important it is to have a separation between church and state.

You see, your posts demonstrate something that us agnostics and atheists have been saying for a long time - if you got christianity into the public school systems, YOU'd be the first to regret it.

Mormoms would freak when a Catholic teaches their religion.
Lutherans would freak when a Baptist teaches their religion.
Witnesses would freak when a Methodist teaches their religion.

etc, etc.

Just like you are doing on this board, christianity in public schools would cause all your different Christian sects to turn on each other in a fight for supremecy. And fights between two religions tend to be MUCH worse than fights between religion and secularism.

in many ways, christians of all sects owe the agnostics and atheists for this: we provide you a "common enemy," a sort of political buffer zone that keeps you from fighting each other.

you can blame us for that "evil" separation of church and state, which seems to protect you more than anything - it keeps you from destroying each other.

Thank you for demonstrating why government involvment in religion (and vice versa) would be stupid!

Van Horn Story

Once my ex and I were driving to LA from Dallas, and after a full day's driving stopped in Van Horn for gas, kind of a run down, shady looking place at that time. It was near sundown, we were anxious to get to El Paso before it got too far into the night. A car came barrelling down the one crossroad from the south, a '66 Oldsmobile, kicking up dust all the way.

A couple of punkish looking teenagers got out, she had black spiky hair, he was wearing an oversized cammo jacket. The boy said "Y'all know what's up that way?" We're thinking "Probably the same kind of nothin' that's back wherever the Hell you came from," but being polite we just looked up the road, looked back at the punks, and said "No".

They got back in the Olds and drove off north into the night, kicking up dust all the way.

ANWR: Buy Low, Sell High

People who think we ought to drill in ANWR now are advocating sell low, buy high. It makes no sense. We need to hoard our oil now, and keep buying foreign oil. Later when they run out, we can pay off whatever debt was incurred buy selling OUR oil at highly inflated prices.

THINK!
